Tytus Bergstrom

Tytus has competed for 17 years both nationally and internationally and is a former U.S. Latin Dance Champion. He has taught professionally for the past 10 years and trained several U.S. Latin dance champions. His pedigree was perfected under coaches: Ron Montez, Rick Velenzuala, Walter & Julie Laird, Johan & Nadia Efiedal, Allen & Hazel Fletcher, Michael Wentink, Donnie Burns & Gaynor Fairweather, Corky & Shirley Ballace & Ruud Vermey.

Jurga Pupelyte

Jurga started ballroom dancing at the age of six and began winning trophies in the 12-14 year old division. In 1994, Jurga enrolled in Klaipedos Arts University where she studied ballet, character, modern, folk dance, hip hop, and of course, ballroom. Her partnership with the equally talented Vaidas Skimelis began in 1999 and after just three weeks of practice they placed third in Lithuania in the Latin American dance category. In 2000 and 2002, Jurga and Vaidas won the Lithuanian 10 dancers competition and represented Lithuania in the European and World 10 dance competitions. In 2000 they placed 5th in Europe and 7th in the world. In 2005, they won the US International Latin Rising Stars competition.

Vaidas Skimelis

Vaidas started his dancing career in 1982 and a year later, in his first competition, he placed 3rd among 50 couples. In 1995, he entered Klaipedos Arts University, where his concentration was on choreography and ballroom dance. Vaidas has also trained in ballet and other forms of dance, always looking to find different forms of individual expression. In 1999, Vaidas and Jurga Pupelyte became partners. In 2000 and 2002, they won the Lithuanian 10 dancers competition, and represented Lithuania in the European and World 10 dance competitions. In 2000 they placed 5th in Europe, and 7th in the world. When they turned professional in 2004, they were 2nd in Lithuania for Latin American dance. Since then, they have been winning competitions all over the USA, including Palm Springs, the Magnolia Open, and the Autumn Classic. In 2005, they won the US International Latin Rising Stars competition.

Silke Heleine

Silke's private students have often commented that her nurturing way of teaching allows them to reach levels of dancing proficiency they never would have imagined possible.

Silke is a renowned International Style Latin dancer, and has trained in the European tradition in both Germany and England. Her accomplishments include the 1998 Southwest Regional, San Francisco Open and California Professional International Latin Rising Star Championship and the 1998 International Grand Ball Professional Open International Latin Championship.

LiWen Ang

LiWen has been dancing and performing for the past 13 years. She recently appeared in the television dance competition series, Dirty Dancing – Living the Dream," which aired on the national WE network from December 2006 – March 2007, where she came in 1st runner-up. LiWen has a well-rounded dance background, having trained in Modern Dance, Ballet, Chinese Dance, HipHop, Competitive Cheerleadering, Ballroom & Latin Dancing. She has always been actively involved in theater, dance productions, competitions and also danced with the widely-acclaimed Tammy L. Wong Dance Company in Singapore . LiWen has trained with top Latin coaches in the world including Ron Montez and Louis Van Amstel. She is currently dancing and performing with Tytus Bergstrom, who plays a key role in her dance training and career.

Michael Arntz

Michael Arntz combines his years of experience as a musician with his training as a ballroom dance teacher to help beginning students learn how to dance to the music with skill and ease. His patience and expertise help students feel comfortable about learning to dance for the first time. He is accomplished in many styles of dancing, including Argentine Tango, Ballroom and Salsa. He received his teacher training through private lessons and Diane Jarmolow's Ballroom Teachers College. He is certified with high honors as a professional dance instructor through ProDVIDA in Bronze American Smooth and Rhythm dances. He teaches private lessons and is the primary instructor for the Wedding Dance Program at Just Dance Ballroom in Oakland. Karen Lile and Michael Arntz are dance partners and co-teachers. Tom Arrington

Tom's dancing career began by going to a neighbors birthday party when he was just a kid. It was just freestyle dancing and it continued through the disco years. He discovered West Coast Swing 10 years ago and began taking private lessons with Randy and Stephanie Krull of Danville, and continued with Jason Colacino and Katie Boyle (both world champions), and most recently with Nick Jay and Melissa Rutz of Novato.

He has studied jazz and hip hop at college level and currently competes at advanced level West Coast Swing. A winner of numerous competitions he has now started teaching Swing as Fodie Baker’s instructing partner at JUST DANCE BALLROOM in Oakland.
Fodie Baker

With a major in Theatre at Eastern Washington University, Fodie performed in many musicals and also studied ballet, tap and jazz. She began teaching Ballroom dancing in 1983 and has been a competitor and champion in many styles including: American smooth and rhythm, international standard and Latin, and Country. Amy Banderas

Amy Banderas is a Latin-American style competitive ballroom dancer and teacher. She has performed and competed in ballroom dance for the past 9 years in venues throughout the U.S. Recently she placed 1st in the SF Open Dancesport Championships Pro-Am Open Latin Event.

In addition to dancing ballroom, Amy also studies the original forms of these dances including cha-cha, rumba, son, salsa, samba and flamenco.

Amy has a doctorate in psychology and uses her understanding of people to make learning the art of dance comfortable and fun. Amy also teaches private lessons for wedding couples, people interested in Latin ballroom dance, Cuban salsa and Brazilian samba.

Jane Xavier Barnes

Jane Xavier Barnes began training at age 4 in jazz, ballet and tap.  Jane is active in the performing arts and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Dramatic Arts at Mills College.

Jane taught extensively in high schools, nightclubs and ballrooms. In 1999-2003 she taught, trained and managed "The Subway Express" a troupe of competition-level teen Lindy Hop dancers.  She also choreographs for the Deco Bells a group of young women who perform vintage showgirl type routines for the Art Deco Society of Northern California.

Jane is an accomplished dance teacher and choreographer, and performs as a dancer in Lindy Hop, Balboa, Jazz, Tap, Vintage Partner Dances and Theatre Arts as an actress, dancer and singer throughout the West Coast.  See Jane’s complete bio

Mestre Beicola

Mestre Beiçola is a 22-year master of Capoeira. He is also a choreographer and songwriter, having mastered a variety of Brazilian instruments and dances.  His work has included theatrical performances and master workshops in Spain, France, Germany, Guam, Saipan, as well as a national tour of Broadway, Hollywood and Las Vegas with the international samba extravaganza, "Oba Oba."  A warm and dynamic instructor, Mestre Beiçola currently teaches Capoeira,  Brazilian dance and Samba at Just Dance Ballroom on Saturday afternoons.

Max Berlyant

Max has been dancing for 10 years and has trained with many of the top world coaches, including Shirley Ballas, Nadia Eftadal, Louis Van Amstel and Richard Porter. Max has won numerous competitive titles, including the Youth Latin California State Dancesport Championships as well as the International Grand Ball Youth Standard Championships.

Isidro Corona

Isidro grew up in the Bay Area and trained with Ricardo and Michelle of PB&G dance Production and most recently world famous Junior and Emily Alabi of Amicitia dance company. He has performed in Europe at the Berlin Salsa Congress, U.K. Salsa Congress and the World Famous LA salsa congress in 2006 and 2007.

Isidro had an accomplished amateur career, winning the highly prestigious San Francisco Salsa Congress amateur competition in 2004 on his first attempt in this competition.

Isidro and his Salsa partner Sheila Zepeda began competing professionally together in March 2005. Their electrifying and innovative routines, full of speed, passion and elegance were featured on ESPN World Salsa Championships in both 2005 and 2006, representing the U.S. in the On 1 category. They also are two-time West Coast International Salsa Congress Champions and are currently ranked 1st in the West Coast in the On1 category.

Stephen Cullip

Stephen Cullip is a Certified Ballroom Instructor & Former National Champion. His Professional Certifications include WD&DSC and NDCA Certified Championship Adjudicator and Full Member US Terpsichore Association, all branches

Jennifer Davis

Jennifer is a certified ballroom dance instructor with 15 years of teaching experience. Since 1996 she competed professionally in all major U.S. Dance Sport competitions including Ohio Star Ball and USDSC.

From 1996-2002 Jennifer and her former partner won numerous American Smooth Open Professional & Rising Star finalist awards, including two Rising Star championships. In 1997 they were US National Rising Star finalists with Arthur Murray International. In 2005 Jennifer competed in International Standard with partner Tadas Jonyla, winning both Open Professional & Rising Star finalist awards. In 2006-07 Jennifer partnered with former two-time U.S. International Standard Champion Stephen Cullip for a series of Bay Area performances.

Miguel de Sousa

Miguel is a familiar face at West Coast Swing gatherings.  Although he got his start as a ballroom dancer in 1994, he has immersed himself in WC Swing since 2000.  He’s certainly found his niche, as Miguel has competed nationally and regionally and won numerous Swing titles for his smooth, sexy, almost lyrical moves punctuated with emphasized staccato accents that permeate the various intonations of Swing music.  Miguel placed 1st in the Advanced All-Star category at the Strictly Boogie By the Bay 2007 event, and won another 1st place Championship in the Jack & Jill Swing competition at the Monterey Swingfest 2008. Lynn Gardiner

Lynn Gardiner watched a dance show at school that rocked her world and started classes immediately at age 7.  At 8, she began her performing career. Lynn has studied jazz, tap, ballet, acrobatics, modern and hip hop. At 17, she discovered the joy of social dancing at salsa and swing clubs.  Lynn graduated from Cal State Hayward, trilingual, with degrees in Spanish and American Sign Language while all the while, taking part in choreography classes and performance opportunities to develop her dance growth and continue being part of the dance community throughout college. After college, Lynn’s discovery of ballroom brought her to new heights of performing, competing, traveling and coaching. Always at home on the stage, and showered with 1sts for amateur rhythm competitions, Lynn stepped up her passion for ballroom dancing by taking Diane Jarmolow’s Ballroom Teacher’s Dance College so she could articulate and share her Rhythm, Latin, Smooth and Standard training with her future students. Since age 7, she’s dreamed of this. And now at 25, educated, well-rounded, and glad to give back to the Bay Area, students can learn with Lynn!

Barbara Goodridge

Barbara Goodridge, is an enthusiastic and experienced dance instructor who has won awards in Ballroom, Country Western and West Coast Swing. Her extensive training includes American and International Ballroom, Rhythm and Latin Dance, Swing - East and West Coast.

Most recently Barbara danced in the Professional Top Hat Club show. She completed teacher training in Bronze, Silver and Gold level American Smooth and Rhythm Terpsichord style, as well as West Coast Swing teacher's training.

Alise Halbert

Alise has been ballroom dancing for over 15 years and teaching for nearly 8. She has competed in International Standard in Europe and the U.S. and holds a Licentiate Teaching Certification in International Standard and an Associate Certification in International Latin.

Gregory Harrison

Hustle Instructor and Competitor throughout the 70's; winning Multiple Competitions. Retired, but came back after 15 years, and within 6 months of returning to dance, won the 1995 Northern California Amateur Championships. He has trained and coached numerous National & International Dance Champions and has been one of the driving forces in the resurgence of Hustle.

Anton and Lena Koukareko

Started to dance as kids at the age of 6 and 7 and began competing at age of 9.

Besides active dancing, Anton studied mathematics and graduated in 2000 from mechanics-mathematics faculty of Belarusian State University. Lena graduated in 2003 from Belarusian University of Culture as a dance choreographer and ballroom trainer. They have been dancing together since February 2000.

As Belarus representatives Anton & Lena were Finalists of IDSF World Cup 10 dance 2000, IDSF World Cup Latin 2002, European Cups 2000, 2002, 2004 and are 5-time national Belarus champions.

Anton & Lena represented the USA in the World Professional 10-dance Championship 2007 in Germany, where they placed 8th in the finals. They also won the Rising Stars title of the Ohio Star Ball, Heritage Classics and San Francisco Open. Anton & Lena also hold the Triple Crown, as Saint Louis Star Ball, Texas Challenge, San Diego Open Standard champions, and were finalists of all major competitions in the USA. They married in 2004.

Karen Lile

Karen Lile has been dancing and performing since 1977. She is accomplished in many styles of dancing, including Argentine Tango, Ballroom (International & American), Salsa, Lindy and West Coast Swing. Karen Lile is a co-creator with Ted Ross of the new dance Foxtantino. She shares her joy of dancing with students and helps them look and feel great on the dance floor. In addition to teaching dance, she is gifted at helping dancers to reduce their shyness, overcome anxiety and to develop confidence in social, performance and competition situations. Her 30 years of experience in the performing arts as a Television producer (for A&E and PBS TV), Theatrical Director, Public Speaker and as a Business Entrepreneur in the Arts contributes to her ability to help dancers accomplish their leisure and career goals in a variety of areas. Yulia Malkina

Yulia has been dancing for 14 years and has trained with many of the top world coaches, including Espen Salsberg, Slavik Kryklyvyy, Andrew Sinkinson and Dimitri Timokhin. Yulia has won numerous titles including the Under 21Ten Dance World Cup Championships as well as the under 21 Russian Cup 10 Dance championships.

San Manh

For years, San taught ballroom dancing in a small penthouse studio in Oakland. His dancing motto was, “there’s always an easier way.” His main objective was to promote the elegance, grace and culture of ballroom dancing, but most of all, to bring out the pleasure and joy of dancing in his students. San’s easy-going personality and patient step-by-step style of instruction encouraged all, including new students to ramp up their skills even after the first lesson! San briefly retired his dance instructing duties to expand his business and open this brand new 10,000 sq. foot Just Dance Ballroom facility on Oakland’s Embarcadero Cove Waterfront. But now, San is back! Look for him on Monday nights teaching Ballroom group lessons for beginners.

Felipe Martinez & Rosa Corisco

Felipe and Rosa embody a very fluid style of dancing, moving seamlessly through all ranges of the embrace. Their dance is at once dynamic, smooth and extremely musical. As teachers, their dedication, enthusiasm, and sheer knowledge of the dance always come across with great clarity. To watch them and to work with them is extremely inspiring and instills a real joy and respect for the dance.

Felipe and Rosa have an extensive background in other forms of movement and have been influenced by the most respected tango masters and dancers. They are prominent tango teachers in the San Francisco/Bay Area and share their passion for tango all over North America and Europe.

John Narvaez

Lisette Perelle

Dancing since the age of 5, Lisette began her training in gymnastics. From there her education continued to Hula, Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Ballroom, Argentine Tango and Theater. She was a member of the Argentine performance company called Ballet Pampa Argentina under the direction of Pampa Cortes for 2 years. She has starred in 2 tango film shorts, "Burn" and "Tango in the Park" as well as performed on television for KQED in San Francisco.

Lisette trained in Argentine tango with Julian "Miller" Ramil, Pampa and Valeria Cortes, Fabian Salas, Mariana Flores and Eduardo Cappussi, Julio Balmeceda and Corina de la Rosa, Mariano "Chicho" Framboli, Mariana Dragone, Sabastian Arce and Mariana Montes, Carlos Gavito, El Flaco Danny Garcia, Omar Vega, Daniel Juarez and Alejandra Armenti and many others. She spends extensive time in Buenos Aires each year training as well as teaching.

She has taught tango in the Bay Area including San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, Monterey, Santa Cruz, Sacramento and Mendocino. She has also taught in Palm Beach, Florida and Buenos Aires, Argentina. She has not only performed in her home state of California, but also in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Presently, she is teaching locally in the Bay Area and is currently Directing and Shooting her own Documentary on tango. She is an elegant dancer and patient teacher who concentrates on the techniques necessary for smooth, powerful and beautiful dancing. She works with the whole body focusing on connection, alignment, lines and beautifying steps.

Citabria Phillips

Citabria loves to dance and it shows in her teaching and her dancing. In 2000, she completed with Honors the Bronze and Silver Levels of Diane Jarmolow's Teacher Training College in the American Smooth, Latin and Night Club sections. She also earned High Honors on the DVIDA American Style Basic Teacher Test and Honors on the DVIDA Bronze International Foxtrot and Waltz tests.

Citabria has also competed in straight and same-sex ballroom competitions both locally and abroad. At the 2006 Gay Games in Chicago, she and her dance partner took the Bronze medal in the A level Women’s Standard Ballroom. Several of her students also did well at the Gay Games, including one couple taking Gold in the E level of Women's Standard.

Patty Purple

Patty started dancing Country Western 15 years ago (1993) and West Coast Swing 11 years ago (1997).  She has been competing in West Coast Swing for seven years.  Patty taught West Coast Swing for three years in Lake Tahoe and most recently in Dublin, and now at Just Dance Ballroom in Oakland.  Patty is versatile.  Just for fun, she has also studied Belly dancing, and taught ballroom dance lessons to engaged couples for their wedding day first dance together.  Patty is a member of the Next Generation Swing Dance Club of the Bay Area.

Roberto Riobo

Roberto Riobo is a well known tango maestro throughout Argentina, The Bay Area and Germany. He graduated in 1994 from the University of Tango in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He began teaching at Dinzel International, the Centro Educativo Del Tango in Buenos Aires, and continued at the Academia de Tango in Frankfurt Germany. Since moving to the Bay Area [in 1999], Roberto has become one of the most widely appreciated tango dancers and teachers on the West Coast. His teaching style reflects a superb command of technique and musicality, a deep understanding of the culture and history of the dance, and a creative sense of humor that makes learning tango fun and easy. Ted Ross

Ted Ross is an accomplished instructor and performer in various forms of dance including Ballroom (International Standard and American Smooth), Latin, Swing, Salsa and Argentine Tango. Ted has been teaching and performing for over 25 years locally and across the country, as well as in Europe. As US West Coast Junior Ballroom Champion at age 14; Dance Director for the Jacksonville Florida Branch of Fred Astaire Dance Studios by age 21; Finalist in the US Professional Latin Championships by age 23; International Standard Rising Star Finalist in 2004 San Francisco Open; Dance School Owner and Director for seven years coupled with many years of theatrical dance training; Ted Ross is regarded as one of the most experienced and well-rounded dance professionals in the field of partner dancing. Ted is currently competing professionally with Alise Halbert in International Standard and Pro/Am with his students in a variety of dances.

Gene Russo

Gene has over 40 years of teaching experience and a reputation for getting student dancing well, in a very short time. He has been a Bay Area resident for the past sixteen years. Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Gene began dancing at age seven with tap, jazz and ballet, often performing for community nursing homes, veterans’ hospitals and lodge groups. He taught at the Arthur Murray Dance Studios, moved into competitive ballroom dancing studying in England. Gene had his own studio in Philadelphia where he developed his first dance program, and cofounded Connecting Through Dance, a nonprofit organization, for the visually impaired. Gene’s goal is to teach sighted as well as visually impaired students to enjoy dancing well, as a celebration of partnership.

Lana Sana

Tom Sepe

Tom studied music and played keyboards in his own band in college. He later played piano bar. His first dance experience started with country western line and couples dancing 15 years ago in 1993. He soon switched to West Coast Swing because of the freedom afforded in this dance style to choreograph on the fly much like playing jazz. He studied teaching and judging though courses offered by the Golden State Dance Teachers Association and earned a judge's certification through the National Dance Dynamics Board.  He has competed in West Coast Swing competitions for six years and is in his fourth year as a judge. Tom has taught West Coast Swing at conventions and at dance studios in Danville and Dublin, and now at Just Dance Ballroom in Oakland!  Tom is a member of the Next Generation Swing Dance Club in the Bay Area.

Susan Stark

Susan Stark is a certified Pilates instructor and has been teaching group classes and private lessons since 2001. She has been a figure skating instructor for more than 25 years, working with competitive and recreational skaters of all ages. Her particular expertise is in ice dancing.

Susan’s goal, in all her work, is to help her students find an awareness of their own physical body along with the strength, stability and flexibility to excel in their chosen physical activities.

John Tanner

The “O.B.,” Original “Bugaloo” Funk Master, John’s brand of Hip Hop dancing is Street Funk with a little jazz and modern dance mixed in. His genius is in creating original routines and Funk choreography on the fly. His students are both young and old and all have fun getting a great cardio workout under his instruction. His easy going persona and welcoming ways make everyone feel comfortable right from the start. Many of John’s students have performed Hip Hop at various venues throughout the Bay Area. Jennifer Thai

• Many years of experience in teaching and managing dance studios.
• Involved in ballroom dance competitions from a young age, and received numerous prizes and championships.
• Received Class-A license from National Dancing Association, International Council of Ballroom Dancing (I.C.B.D.), Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (I.S.T.D), and a certificate from International Dance Teacher's Association (I.D.T.A.)
• Invited by more than 60 organizations to be their dancing instructor, including government offices, schools and private companies

Paul Yee

Paul realized he had a gift for movement and physical expression when he enrolled in a ballroom dance program in college. It was there that he met his dance partner Tiffany Le, whom he married after they realized they had something very real in common. Over the years, both Paul & Tiffany trained with world champions and top coaches, including Russians Igor & Ireana Suvorov and Britons Timothy & Joann Bolton. They also competed in amateur dance competitions at the U.S. Nationals level. In 2003, they opened Tiffany’s Ballroom in South San Francisco and attracted renowned instructors to teach there, but closed it to fulfill a bigger collaboration with partner San Manh to open the new state-of-the-art Just Dance Ballroom in Oakland’s Embarcadero Cove Waterfront.

Sheila Zepeda

Born in the City of Mexico, Puebla, Sheila migrated to the Bay Area at the age of 11. She has trained with the San Francisco Bay Area’s Top Salsa Instructors: Stephanie Palmieri, Ricardo Tellez, Ricardo Sanchez and Michelle Castro, directors of world champions PB&G Dance Productions and Junior and Emily Alabi of Amicitia Dance Company.

Sheila has also performed with several dance teams including the prestigious West Coast International Salsa Congress in Los Angeles and placed 2nd in her first time competing at the San Francisco Salsa Congress Amateur Competition in 2003 and 1st at Bay Area 3rd Annual Amateur Dance Competition at Hot Salsa Friday with former partner Billy Corado. She has also won numerous dance contests, including the Bay Areas Hot Salsa Friday’s "So You Think You Can Dance" Jack & Jill Dance Contest 2005, and the Reno Dance Sensation Strictly Salsa competition of March 2004.

Sheila and Salsa partner Isidro Corona began competing professionally together in March 2005. Their electrifying and innovative routines full of speed, passion and elegance have been featured on television worldwide in the ESPN World Salsa Championships in both 2005 and 2006. The are two-time West Coast International Salsa Congress Champions and are currently ranked 1st in the West Coast in the On1 category.
